Collide is a 3 part sculpture inspired by the discovery of the Higgs Boson (AKA ‘The God Particle’); a subatomic particle, partly responsible for giving the universe its mass. The theory of the Higgs Boson was predicted in 1964 by 5 scientists and then confirmed by experiments conducted at the CERN Institute in 2012.
This sculpture is part of a larger body of work, which looks at creating artistic interpretations of scientific discoveries and theories in cosmology; bringing art and science together.
I have used a combination of silver dichroic, iridized and clear glass to reflect and transmit dazzling colour throughout; representing the energy from the collision. Fragments of opal white glass are also included emphasizing the explosion. The sculpture is finished with polished and satin surfaces.
